English 2089: Analyzing myself as a Rhetor
As you can see from my cheesy website title, my name is Michael Fitzgerald. This semester I was enrolled in an English 2089: Intermediate Composition class. In this class, we started out by reading and analyzing an article centered around rhetorical analysis. This included focusing in on rhetors (creators of discourse), exigence (motivation of discourse), audience (anyone who might hear, see, or be influenced by a discourse or text), genre (what medium is being used), and context (what outside things might affect the texts or discourse like historical context, location, etc.). The class was then centered around exploring these different areas and analyzing different discourse more deeply in order to gain a better understanding of the texts we encounter every day.
This portfolio is a composition of some different texts I personally have created as a rhetor. In the portfolio, I will analyze myself and my compositions in order to gain a better understanding of my writing habits and messages.
There are 4 different pieces I chose to analyze: two 2089 essays, and two non-2089 pieces. You can use the tabs under 3rd year>Eng 2089: Analyzing Fitz to navigate between the different analysis pages. You may also use the links at the bottom of each page to navigate between the different tabs. On each page, I have provided an in depth analysis of each piece. Go ahead and start exploring who Michael Fitzgerald is as a rhetor!
