The Roman Experience
Over the spring semester of my 4th year, I took an honors seminar called Art, Architecture, and Engineering: The Roman Experience. The class focused on those 3 elements of Rome and Florence Italy throughout history and into the modern era. The class met once a week for 3 hours and culminated in a 10 day study trip at the end of the semester. Each person was tasked with learning the material, present about one topic when in Florence or Rome, and completing a project at the end to capture the trip and lessons taken away from it.
I learned a lot in the class about the incredible people, places, and cultural movements that helped build and shape the world throughout history. It allowed me to form a deeper appreciation and understanding of the incredible minds and efforts it took to bring buildings, paintings, sculptures, and culture to life. During the trip abroad, I was able to truly form relationships with my fellow classmates and share a common bond with diverse individuals from a lot of different areas of UC. Being able to not only study a culture and country, but to travel to it, brings a whole new level of experience and learning into play. Overall, each new experience and adventure provides me with a greater appreciation and understanding of the world and the amazing people in it.
The video below is the final project I produced for the class. I wanted to capture the sites, people, and experiences that made this trip so special. I chose to create a video because creating videos helps me explore learning outside of just my engineering focus area, they are a great way to travel back to those places and experiences later on, and they are fun for me to make and edit.
I hope you enjoy the video and this page! Make sure to check out some of my other experiences through the additional tabs.
