Medventure Technologies
My co-op with Medventure during the summer of 2014 was an absolutely wonderful experience. I was a product development co-op on a small team within the company. It was a wonderful experience because I fit in very well with my team and with the work environment. Medventure was a wonderful place to be, and I felt that my growth throughout the semester showed that. I was able to participate in process and product development, prototyping, 3-D printing builds, design assessments, training of associates, device testing, fixturing, various machine and process tasks, and much much more. I also sat down with HR to help them bolster their co-op program and give them ideas of how to improve the overall co-op experience.
One thing that really stood out to me about the company was their flexibility to allow me to continue my involvement with HOBY. I was given permission to take 7 days off of work to do my local Illinois weekend seminar and also the World Leadership Congress for a week in Chicago. Please click this if you wish to know more about my HOBY experience! I had the privilege of being Mr. PMA (positive mental attitude) for my local seminar and an Alumni Section Assistant for the WLC! Please contact me if you want to know more. I can talk your ear off about HOBY...but i digress...
Outside of HOBY and the office, I lived with 5 other college students in a house right off of U of L's campus. This was an awesome experience for me because I was still able to be surrounded by people my age and have a lot of fun. The first weekend I was in town, some of my UC friends came down, and we went to the Kentucky Derby. I also played in a men's adult hockey league on Sunday nights. My summer was filled with frequent trips to the ice cream shop a block from my house, sand volleyball games, and long nights talking with my new found friends on our front porch (affectionately referred to as the "stoop"). I met a ton of wonderful new friends and was able to, once again, step out of my comfort zone to explore a little bit more of what this amazing world has to offer. I am so thankful for the decisions I have made so far to lead me to where I am, and I cannot wait for life's next adventure.
