Mammotome: Devicor Medical Inc.
This past Spring 2015, I completed my third co-op rotation with a company called Mammotome: Devicor Medical Inc. It was my first co-op with that company; I worked with the research and development group on a few different projects. The company focuses on minimally invasive breast biopsy equipment to provide a safe and effective diagnostic tool for breast cancer. Mainly, my focus was on programming a couple stepper motors for MR procedures and devices. The other focus was a project involving the breast biopsy tables and enhancing their imaging portions for better diagnosis and sampling within the procedure.
My experience was a lot different than before because I was one of only two co-ops. It was different not having a lot of co-workers my age to have more of a peer to peer social presence with within the office. This was unique and challenged me to connect more with those older or above me positionally within the company. I was able to build relationships very well with the engineers within my group as well as those around the company.
Another unique thing was that this was my first co-op position in town. It was awesome to be able to stay in Cincinnati and stay involved with organizations. I didn't miss basketball games, new member meetings for PIKE, and other campus events and activities. This really helped make life outside of co-op very busy and enjoyable throughout the Spring.
I will be returning to Mammotome for a second rotation this coming Fall of 2015. I am excited to continue to grow in experience and responsibility within the company. I look forward to sharing more of that experience in the year to come.
