My LeaderShape Experience
My definition of leadership tends to change depending on where I am in life. I never really realized that, however, til I got to LeaderShape. This 6 day seminar really helped me delve into what it means to be a leader. My definition of a leader now means anyone who strives to use their talents to improve the world around them. It could be as big as someone finding life among the stars or something as small as someone feeding the homeless right here in our own community. Leadership is the drive to make change happen and make the world go round. One thing that really struck me at LeaderShape was how diverse peoples leadership skills were and how they used those diverse skills to produce tons of different visions for improving the world. My vision, pictured below in my breakthrough blueprint and News paper story, tells one very close to my heart of empowering young people to believe in themselves and strive for betterment. Many other peoples contained goals just as valid as mine, but in so many different ways and facets.
One thing that they really drove home during the week was to lead with integrity. This is huge with leadership and life in general because having integrity helps people align their core values and make decisions based off what they believe in, even if it may be difficult. It was a great experience for me to be on the other side of a leadership seminar for the first time in a while. I usually have volunteered at HOBY seminars for a while (check out the HOBY tab upder freshman year). It was unique to be on the other side. I got to build a family of other young motivated UC students as we headed back onto campus and into our day 7. The best part of it all was building new relationships with my fellow LeaderShapers and creating memories that will help carry me through my down days and slip ups. THANKS LEADERSHAPE, and, as always, SQUID SQUAD!!!
