Intro to honors is a pretty self explanatory course; It introduces incoming freshman students to everything in the honors program from requirements to opportunities to reflection and much much more. This course was very helpful for me to see not only what was needed to stay in the program, but the importance behind everything the program required and stood for.
The class required 4 main things of students: Understand and engage in the reflection process, identify the potential uses of learning portfolios and create one for displaying your learning, apply the concepts of experiential learning to individual learning and interests, and create and evaluate a successful learning proposal based on the interests as they align with the University Honors Program. You can see my fulfillment of two of these objectives in the creation of this site and in the HOBY tab located above. The first objective saw completion through various projects such as "This I Believe", located in a tab above, which entailed writing or completing an assignment, and then evaluating what that assignment meant and what learning came out of it, thus outlining the reflection process. The third objective was also complete through these various assignments because it brought us along all semester to evaluate ourselves and our interests and ended up nicely transitioning into the proposal creation at the end of the course.
Overall, the class was successful in properly teaching the incoming honors students the ropes in the program, bringing a diverse group of students together, and giving every student the tools to succeed both in and out of their careers at the university.
